A guide, not a rule. Other notes can sound good too.

Keep your project

No account needed. “Save on this device” stores this melody, your takes and settings in this browser. It replaces the last project saved here. Download a project to keep a separate copy or move it to another device.

Not saved yet. Closing this page clears unsaved work.

How to make a vocal harmony

  1. Open your MusicXML melody or try the example. Choose a short phrase and listen.
  2. Put on headphones and press Sing a take. After two count-in beats, sing above or below the melody, or hold one note.
  3. Your yellow line becomes editable note blocks. Listen to your harmony alone or both parts together.
  4. Save the project. To practise without the harmony guide, listen to the melody and sing another take.

Questions

Do I need an account to save a harmony?

No. Save on this device keeps one project in this browser, with your permission when you press the button. Download project keeps a file you can reopen here, including the melody and all takes. There is no account or cloud sync. Browser storage can be cleared, so download work you want to keep.

Is my singing recorded?

No audio is recorded, stored or uploaded. During Sing a take, the microphone measures pitch on your device. The tool keeps estimated note pitches, start times and lengths. You can edit those notes and hear them played on piano. Headphones prevent the melody from being mistaken for your voice.

Does it choose the right harmony for me?

You choose your harmony by singing. A low held note is as welcome as a moving part above the melody. There is no right-or-wrong score. Optional shading follows the MusicXML key signature; it does not infer chords or reject notes outside the key. Pitch detection is an estimate: check the notes by listening and edit them when needed.

Which scores can I use?

Uncompressed partwise MusicXML (.musicxml or .xml) and standard beat-based MIDI (.mid or .midi). Choose one melody voice without overlapping notes. Playback follows written order at a constant tempo, without repeat signs, jumps, ornaments or grace notes. Photos, PDF, audio files and compressed .mxl are not supported in this version.

Piano recordings: Salamander Grand Piano by Alexander Holm, CC BY 3.0. MP3 samples from Tone.js, selected, repitched and enveloped for playback.
