How to practise

  1. Start with 3 against 2 at a slow cycle tempo. Listen to how the pulses meet.
  2. Tap one pulse first. Each round has two count-in cycles and four scored cycles.
  3. Choose both pulses and use the two pads, or F and J on a keyboard. Both hands meet at the start of each cycle.

Questions

What does 3 against 2 mean?

Three evenly spaced taps and two evenly spaced taps share one cycle. They start together and meet again at the next cycle. Here the tempo is whole cycles per minute, not individual taps.

How do the two pads work?

The left pad or F key plays the upper number of pulses. The right pad or J key plays the lower number. In single-pulse mode only the selected pad is scored.

How is each hand scored?

Each hand is matched to its own evenly spaced target times. Misses and extra taps count. The combined score uses both hands’ expected and extra taps, so an idle hand cannot receive full marks.
