Questions
Why does the line jump up when I pluck?
A hard pluck stretches the string for a moment, so the note starts sharp and then settles. Tune by the steady part of the line.
What does A4 = 440 Hz mean?
It is the note the tuner measures against. Most bands use 440 Hz. Many orchestras tune a little higher, to 442 or 443 Hz.
Does it hear a quiet, fading string?
Yes. It measures how quiet your room is and listens down to just above that noise, so the line follows a note until it really fades.
Can I tune my voice?
Yes. Sing a long note and read the cents. To see a whole phrase, open the pitch monitor.
