What Note Am I Singing?

Sing and watch your voice as a line over the piano keys. See the note, how many cents off you are, and how steady you hold it. It hears from C1 up to C6.

Read the line

  1. Each lane is a piano key. A line in the middle of a lane is in tune.
  2. A hook at the start of a note is a scoop: you started low and slid up.
  3. A regular wave on a long note is vibrato. An irregular wobble is not.

Questions

What is a cent?

One hundredth of a semitone. Most listeners hear a difference of 10–20 cents on a held note.

Why do the keys move?

An octave and a half fits on the screen, so every note is easy to read. While you sing in the middle half of the view, it stays still. When your voice goes higher or lower, the view moves with it.

Is my voice recorded?

No. Your browser analyses the sound on your device and keeps only the pitch line on screen.
